Macarons at LuxBite.
"Life is uncertain, eat dessert first." Open from 8am - 8pm daily, LuxBite certainly is the go-to-place for your dessert craving. It doesn’t come cheap though. Miniature cakes are just under 10 dollars and the macarons are around $2.50 a pop.
The LuxBite macarons are delicate little morsels, generally smaller and flatter than the ones at La Belle Miette, but that is not entirely a bad thing. These brightly coloured crunchy outer-shells sandwich a variety of moist cream-textured fillings, and whilst most of the flavours do not produce a flavour-concerto on your taste-buds, they are nevertheless delicious.
But what differentiates LuxBite from the other notable (and arguably better) macaron specialists in Melbourne is the exotic Asian-inspired flavours. There are your usual hazelnut, cafe latte, salted caramel varieties as well as fruity choices like passionfruit and strawberry. But then there are kaya toast, rose and lychee, Ribena lemonade, pandan, and bamboo oolong tea…
My personal favourites include the salted caramel and the pandan. Not to be missed are also the green-tea pistachio and the bamboo oolong tea!
