Sashi Don at Don Tojo.
Don is basically a rice bowl dish in Japanese and Don Tojo (along with its brother and sister stores Don Don’s in CBD and Southbank and Don Too in CBD) serve up a small menu of simple Japanese meals at under $10.
The sashi don is a personal long-time trusted favourite. A generous serving of fresh ocean trout sashimi slices accompanied by wasabi and soy, with sauteed shitake mushrooms, pickled ginger slices and a tofu and Japanese garden salad, all packed on top of a warm bed of sushi rice.
This may be no gastronomic miracle but it is quick, tasty, and filling. Perfect for a no-frills no-fuss office or university lunch-break.
