Breakfast Melt at Eden Espresso.
On the Malvern side of Glenferrie Road, Eden Espresso has a non-descriptive shop-front with a few tables lining the side-walk. Inside, there is the main space, then a smaller back-room that leads out to a court-yard.
The menu comprises of the typical suburban brunch fare, nothing fancy or inventive, but it does not disappoint in terms of choices. The coffee is decent - they serve a good chai too, pity about the commercial Kraft honey that comes with it.
The Breakfast Melt is essentially a bagel halved, each topped with sliced tomatoes, smashed avocado, a pan-fried egg and a slice of melted cheese on top. It arrives on a quaint little wooden board with a slice of lemon. The combination is a little tired and the ingredients rather ordinary… both in terms of quality and preparation. As for the bagel… well, I have had better. But for under $15, the servings are generous and the staff very friendly.
All in all, pretty enjoyable breakfast, great for casual weekend brunch just in the neighbourhood. Eden Espresso is what it is - a warm little local cafe - it is not pretending to be some hip Melbournian food institution and so you so not expect it to be.
